Customs suspends import duty on old vehicles

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Joseph Attah, revealed that the service has suspended the implementation of the payment of import duty on old vehicles in the country.

This development is coming on the heels of a directive by the Senate asking the NCS to suspend the idea which has generated controversies across the nation

The statement said the leadership of the NCS and the National Assembly had a meeting on the resolution of the ranging controversy.

It went further to say that an agreement was reached to put the decision on hold while both parties meet to advance consultation on the issue; adding that payment of duty on vehicles and duty imported items are responsibility of patriotic Nigerians but that NCS management decided to put it on hold while engaging the Senate Committee on talks to stress the importance of the exercise to national security and the economy, the statement noted.
